Enrolment day at "Fifteen" Training program
(May 2010)
"Hi
I’m Portia also known as mummy by my son and 'Granny P' by my friends. A
Brixton girl through and through” I’ve spent about 75% of my life in
the kitchen, it’s a place where I find my most comfort, and this is why I
love to cook for other people because food brings people together in
ways other things can’t."
Portia Eyeson has
worked as an Industry Professional within the Restaurant and Hospitality
industry
for over 10 years. Portia started her journey studying and graduating
from Jamie Oliver's London training programme "15" and there after went
on to work for several west end restaurants over the last 10 years.
Portia has a huge love for the industry and thoroughly
enjoys her craft, Portia believes that the personal touch is what makes industry-professionals
passionate about the service they provide and the dishes they create, which
often begin to suffer when profit is placed above hospitality.
After working for
10 years within the industry Portia is passionate about her belief that both
can be achieved, and that the harsh reality of business need not come at the
expense of good quality authentic food and hospitality. Her belief is the motivation behind
creating a community-oriented business that proves it.
" Hi
I’m Gill, mother, ‘Nana’ and Brixton resident for the last 15+ years.
I’ve spent my career supporting people from a diverse range of
backgrounds to be the best they can be and my love of community is what
inspires me to build the Home Grown family”
Gill Springer moved to Brixton 15 years ago and grew to love the
Community. After 21 years of working in training and personal development
helping the community of Westminster, Gill decided it was time to do something
that helped her own community.
The medium of food is something that brings people together and it is
Gill's belief that the cause of many Social issues that have risen over the
years is the erosion of Community Spirit, the belief that we are a part of
something greater than ourselves breaks down social barriers, promotes
connection, instills pride and the idea that and we are never alone.
