Gill Springer

"Hi I’m Gill, South London born and raised, and Brixton resident for the last 15+ years. I’ve spent my career supporting people from a diverse range of backgrounds to be the best they can be and my love of community is what inspires me to build the Home Grown family"

After spending 21 years working in training and personal development to support the community of Westminster, Gill realised it was time to make a difference in her own community in Brixton. She believes that food has the power to bring people together, and she is committed to using it as a medium to promote community spirit.

Gill's belief is that many social issues arise from the erosion of community spirit. She believes that when people feel a part of something greater than themselves, social barriers break down, connections are made, pride is instilled, and the sense of never being alone is fostered. Gill's dedication to building a strong community through Home Grown reflects her passion for making a positive impact in Brixton and beyond.

Portia Eyeson

"Hi I’m Portia also known as mummy by my son and 'Granny P' by my friends. A Brixton girl through and through” I’ve spent about 75% of my life in the kitchen, it’s a place where I find my most comfort, and this is why I love to cook for other people because food brings people together in ways other things can’t."

With over 10 years of experience as an industry professional in the restaurant and hospitality industry, Portia started her journey by studying and graduating from Jamie Oliver's London training programme, "15". She has since worked for several West End restaurants, honing her skills and passion for the craft.

Portia firmly believes that the personal touch is what makes industry professionals truly passionate about the service they provide and the dishes they create. She recognises that the harsh reality of business can sometimes prioritise profit over hospitality, but she is motivated by her belief that both can be achieved without sacrificing good quality authentic food and hospitality.

As a result, Portia is dedicated to creating a community-oriented business that proves her belief. Her extensive experience, love for the industry, and commitment to authentic food and hospitality make her a true professional in the restaurant and hospitality world.
